You Will Suffer Every Day Unless You Do This

One of the things that has helped me most in life, especially when it comes to entrepreneurship, is meditation.

Why? Well, in business, state control is a must. The proper temperament is critical for a business owner's success.  Nothing is worse than a leader or founder who throws a tantrum each time they face hardship or stress. How these people react is embarrassing, and their reaction creates a hostile work environment while simultaneously setting a poor example for employees.

One of the main benefits that mediation teaches is how to respond to life instead of reacting to it like a crying child. And even if you aren’t a business owner, is that how you want to live?

Let’s explore the benefits of meditation and how you can use it to improve your business, health, and life.

The Benefits of Meditation

Meditation offers many benefits.

Although it’s well known as a technique to reduce stress and anxiety, research shows it also helps enhance your mood, promote healthy sleep patterns, and boost cognitive skills.

Meditation helps to:

  • Reduce Stress

  • Control Anxiety

  • Promote Emotional Health

  • Enhance Self-Awareness

  • Lengthen Attention Span

  • Reduce Age-Related Memory Loss

  • Improve Sleep

And there are even more benefits to mediation. That’s just some.

Meditation for Health

Make no mistake: your ability to handle stress will determine how much you accomplish in life.

If you’re stressed out all the time, you will not accomplish your goals, and you’ll be miserable as hell. Is that how you want to live?

I’m going to guess probably not.

Stress can take a massive toll on your emotional and physical health. And if left unchecked, over time, stress will deteriorate the body.

When we are stressed, adrenaline and cortisol–the stress hormone–are released into the body. Both chemicals increase your heart rate, causing the sympathetic nervous system to kick into gear. When stressed, it’s the “fight, flight, or freeze” response.

That’s good for survival, but chronically living in this state puts us at risk for a litany of health issues, including:

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Digestive problems

  • Headaches

  • Muscle tension and pain

  • Heart disease, heart attack, high blood pressure and stroke

  • Sleep problems

  • Weight gain

  • Problems with memory and focus

The regular practice of meditation helps us cope with the stress of life.

By practicing meditation, you learn how to engage the opposite of the sympathetic nervous system: the parasympathetic nervous system, which equates to the “rest and digest” type of sensations.

Meditation is consciously practicing the art of mindfulness and staying calm. And you get good at anything you practice, whether stressing or staying centered.

How do you want to live?

Do you want to be that person constantly in a state of stress? Someone who freaks out all the time at the smallest of incidents?

Or would you rather be the zen-like sage who can handle anything that comes their way without losing their cool?

Respond versus react. You’ll be healthier, and your business will be better as a result.

Meditation for Business

Meditation helps with the ups and downs of business.

And trust me, after building multiple seven-figure businesses, I can tell you firsthand you will face many ups and downs after building various seven-figure businesses.

Stats have shown that up to 80% of businesses fail. Business is a risky game! There’s also a ton of pressure on you. You’ll have to make many decisions–high stakes type of decisions! And it’s even more pressure once you get employees. These people’s lives depend on you.

For me, meditation helps me stay cool, calm, and collected. I’m like James Bond on vacation. It’s okay if my employees freak out from time to time. But I need to stay calm, responding to stressful business situations instead of reacting. That’s how we overcome the challenges and get more money.

When I see people flipping out over little things in life, I think, “Oh yeah…there’s no way this guy can run a seven-figure business.”

It’s impossible. If this person freaks out over a spilled latte, there’s no chance they can run a company. And they don’t meditate (obviously) because if they did, they wouldn’t freak out like a child.

One of my business heroes is Ray Dalio. He wrote one of my favorite books, Principles, and built one of the largest hedge funds in history. Oh, and he’s among the wealthiest people alive, with a net worth of $15.4 billion.

He credits meditation as the reason for his incredible success. It would do you well to learn meditation and make it a habit.

The Best Way to Meditate

There are hundreds of ways to meditate.

Sure, you could download an app like Calm or Headspace, but personally, this is entry-level and isn’t as effective as really learning from a professional.

You all know how I feel about mentorship. I swear by it. I’ve spent millions over the years to learn from the best. And I did that with meditation as well.

Start with the book Stress Less, Accomplish More by Emily Fletcher. She’s my meditation mentor and helped me understand meditation on an entirely different level.

And mind you, I was meditating for a good ten years before I went to her. So, I had a decent understanding going in. She helped me take it to new heights.

Learning her method of meditation helped me get more work done and get more money, and I was happier in the process of doing so.

The BMM Takeaway

Mediation will keep you sane.

Life doesn’t have to be complicated. Business doesn’t need to be miserable. And pursuing your goals doesn’t need to feel like a “war” or a constant uphill “battle” that’s always unfolding.

I’ll let you in a secret: I hate that mentality.

The perspective that life is a war and you’ve always got to be “fighting” to win your goals. No. I gamify it. I make it into a game. An idea that, funny enough, came to me while meditating.

I have a lot of fun with what I do in life and with business. Sure, I have challenges. Yes, of course, there are hardships. But meditation showed me how to stay cool, calm, and collected through it all.

I even had fun feeling happy on the way to fulfilling my goals. That’s called enjoying the journey, enjoying the process. So, I’m always feeling pretty good. Definitely better than most in the entrepreneurship world.

Meditation helped me achieve that. And it can be that way for you, too.
