How To Permanently Stop Procrastinating

TLDR (Too Long Didn’t Read)

When you're grinding towards your goals, procrastination is your number one enemy.

Think about the sheer amount of time you’ve wasted just from scrolling on TikTok or watching Netflix.

You probably could’ve built a damn spaceship in all that time.

Procrastination is a sneaky thief that robs you of your time. And when your time is stolen, so is your potential, and ultimately, your success.

But here's the good news: there IS a cure for procrastination. And I’ve already found it.

Here’s how you can finally stop procrastinating and actually WANT to do more work.

Understanding Why You Procrastinate So Damn Much

Think about it. We all have that one thing we keep pushing off until tomorrow, next week, or maybe indefinitely.

It's like there's a mental block stopping us from diving into the tasks that matter most.

But why do we procrastinate?

It boils down to value and confidence.

You see, when a task holds immense value but you doubt your ability to nail it, that's when procrastination creeps in.

Research even shows that procrastination isn't just about being lazy. It's a complex psychological behavior tied to how we value tasks and our confidence in completing them.

We simply avoid tasks that make us feel bad, even if they're important.

One way to beat procrastination is to shift your perspective.

Start valuing your tasks differently and boost your confidence in tackling them.

Here's how:

1.) Shift Your Perspective: Look at the high-value tasks as opportunities rather than chores. Remember, these tasks are stepping stones to your success.

2.) Build Your Confidence: Break down daunting tasks into manageable chunks. Small wins will build your confidence over time.

By reprogramming how you view and approach your tasks, you can turn procrastination from a recurring villain into a conquered foe.

You can also try something like The 2 Minute Rule which states “if it takes less than 2 minutes, do it now”.

Building Confidence and Crushing Goals

Now, you've probably heard me say this before, but it's worth repeating.

A lot of you are playing the game at a level where you're just not giving it everything you've got.

It's like you're swinging at life with a fly swatter when you should be bringing the whole damn extermination squad.

So in a way, you procrastinating isn’t even the biggest problem. It’s your overall vision and confidence.

Understanding the real value of what you're chasing and genuinely believing in your capability to nail it is what separates the winners from the procrastinators.

In my talks, I've highlighted how guys often see the immense value in their goals but lack the confidence to go after them, which is a direct road to procrastination city.

But how do you switch lanes from doubt to dominance?

It's about systematically building your confidence.

Start with small, achievable goals to prove to yourself that you can do it. Each success is a building block to a stronger, more confident you.

But this will require setting the bar high.

We’re talking sky-high, non-negotiable standards.

This is all about ensuring you achieve something rather than just hoping you will. You have to look at your big goals and decide that failure isn’t just unlikely, it’s unacceptable.

If you're aiming to launch a killer product or set a new gym record, you’ve got to approach it with the mentality that you're going to nail it, no matter what.

Become A Master Of Time

Time perception is another huge factor in why we procrastinate.

You might look at a big goal and think it's going to take forever to achieve, which can be overwhelming and lead to putting it off.

But here's the reality…success is like an exponential curve, not a straight line.

In the beginning, progress is slow, and you feel like you're grinding for nothing.

This phase tests you, but it's critical because that's when the foundation for greater achievements is built.

Most people falter here because they crave instant results. They don't see the immediate payoff, so they think their efforts are in vain.

But patience is key.

Over time, with consistent effort, the results begin to compound, leading to massive gains.

Think about it…if you improve just 1% each day, that's a 365% improvement in a year.

So from now on, view your success as a curve. It’ll help propel you through the first “Cringe Mountain” phase.

The BMM Takeaway

The best thing you can do is break apart your largest tasks into smaller tasks.

Even just completing one of the small tasks will help you feel less stressed about the whole project.

I also suggest writing everything down on paper with a brain dump to see everything you need to do for the day.

Then, you can prioritize, cross stuff off, and get a clear physical picture of what needs to get down rather than letting it swim around in your head.

But above all, your main goal should be to abandon the useless notion of “all or nothing”.

Rome wasn’t built in a day. Get things done consistently, just like going to the gym.

You won’t lose 100 pounds in a week. It’ll take months. And you probably won’t see much happening in the first week or two.

But as the months go by you see real transformation. Shift into that perspective and you’ll crush procrastination for good.
